Well Testing and Procurement

Well Testing and Procurement

JRG Energy assisted the lead technical adviser to Electricite de Djibouti (World Bank-backed) to drill, test, and evaluate geothermal wells. Scope included equipment procurement, operational planning, and technical supervision of well-testing activities, supporting characterisation of Djibouti’s geothermal resource potential.

Technical Risk Review — Due Diligence

JRG Energy formed a multi-disciplinary team of specialised geothermal experts to perform a technical risk review and due diligence for a geothermal project in Ethiopia. The review assessed reservoir characteristics, development risks, and technical uncertainties, providing an independent evaluation to support investment decision-making.

Geology Consulting and On-Job Training

JRG Energy provided geological consulting services for two UNEP ARGeo projects in Uganda and Tanzania. Scope included geological data collection, interpretation, and on-the-job training for local geoscientists, supporting the development of in-country expertise and contributing to regional geothermal resource assessments.

Geothermal Technical Assistance

Through NZ MFAT, JRG Energy provided managerial and technical capacity-building support to the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) in Kenya. Support covered operational guidance, technical expertise, and knowledge transfer to strengthen GDC’s capacity to develop and manage Kenya’s geothermal resources.

Wireline and Well Testing

JRG Energy provided wireline personnel and equipment to enable Mariott Drilling to perform geothermal wireline logging and well testing operations in Ethiopia. Services supported the characterisation of geothermal resources and contributed to the development of Ethiopia’s geothermal energy potential.

IRENA Geothermal Technology Report

JRG Energy, through contractor Witteveen & Bos, produced a geothermal technology report for IRENA. Work included a comprehensive literature review, a stakeholder consultation meeting coordinated with IRENA and IGA, and the preparation of a high-quality report covering the status, trends, and perspectives on geothermal technology globally.

Geothermal Potential Desktop Study

JRG Energy provided Fortescue Future Industries with a geothermal desktop study assessing the geothermal potential of Gabon. The study helped FFI determine whether further investigation was warranted and provided a strategic foundation for decision-making on geothermal energy development in the region.

Asset Management Capacity Building for Drilling Equipment

Funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ MFAT), JRG Energy led a Needs Assessment for drilling equipment asset management across four partner organisations: Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP, Ethiopia), Geothermal Development Company (GDC, Kenya), Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC, Tanzania), and Office de Développement de l’Energie Géothermique (ODDEG, Djibouti). Deliverables included site […]

Menengai Geothermal Spa Feasibility

JRG Energy conducted a full feasibility study for a proposed geothermal spa facility at the Menengai steamfield near Nakuru, examining technical, economic, social, environmental, market and legal aspects. The study included a site visit and community consultation to identify the optimal location adjacent to re-injection infrastructure with caldera views. JRG developed a preliminary master plan […]

AGF 2.0 — New Zealand-Africa Geothermal Facility

JRG Energy, in partnership with MB Century, is serving as Managing Contractor for the AGF 2.0 programme in East Africa. Drawing on six years of involvement in AGF 1.0 and deep relationships with Partner organisations across the region through the GRMF program in particular, JRG leads technical assistance spanning the full geothermal development cycle — […]
